February in the garden can be similar to
January with much of the colour and interest coming from foliage and
stems. In a mild year, camellias and hellebores will be
flowering by the end of the month. On the positive side, February always seems better than
January because the light is strengthening and the spring is closer.

We both love snowdrops
which lasted well in 2006 - some even flowering at the
beginning of April! |

Being frost hollow, we
thought we would be lucky to keep this Drimys winteri
but it is never damaged in cold weather and grows
vigorously. The stems and leaf axils are this
beautiful colour all year round. |

Helebore fans must wait
until next month for the best shots. This and the
next photograph were taken at the end of the February
2006. |
