Braglands Barn Garden

March

March is usually when the garden comes to life.

The far side of the drive just coming to life.

Evergreens, helebores and heather near the front of the house.

Chaenomeles x superba 'Crimson and Gold' flowers over a long period and is invaluable at this time of year.

Cornus mas flowering in the field.  Rabbits ate all the flowers within reach in 2006.

Helebores take a little while to get established.  Most of ours have been in several years and are starting to look very good.

One of many pulmonarias that do so well under deciduous shrubs and behind summer perennials.

A good dark form.

Anemone blanda spreads itself around but is never invasive and cheers up a dull day.

March would not be complete without daffodils.

The mixed border in font of the house coming into life.

The same border.  Thujopsis dolabrata 'Aurea' (left) is one of my favourite conifers.

Camellia x williamsii 'Debbie'.

An attractive blue form of pulmonaria

Camellia x williamsii 'Donation' - one of the most reliable freest flowering.  I planted one of these in my parents garden over 30 years ago as a cutting with six leaves and one flower; it has now almost taken over the border!
