Braglands Barn Garden

May

There is usually plenty to photograph in May.

Viburnum plicatum 'Mariessii' flowers over a long period and is an invaluable shrub. Geranium psilostomen is the largest geranium and great value if you have the space for it.

The bed in front of the house has put on weight in the last month.

Geranium macrorrhizum surrounding a young Pinus sylvestris 'Fastigiata'.

One of our many bearded irises.

Our soil is just acid enough for rhododendrons but they would prefer more rain in the summer months.

Pieris and azaleas.  The perennial in front is Veronica gentianoides.

We find Iris sibirica much easier to grow than the bearded irises and we have quite a large collection.

Another sibirica

Primula prolifera

Definitely a Trollius, europaeus I think.

Hellebores have been providing colour for 3 months now.

Euphorbia palustris 'Walenburg's Glorie' (middle), Euphorbia griffithii 'Fireglow' (front), Viburnum opulus 'Sterile' back.  We find Fireglow suffers badly from rust if it grows in soil that dries out.
